Please proof Directory information!

If you have a child in the High School, you should have recently received a message from Lori Markusfeld (parent volunteer) that contained a draft of the contact information to be included in the Student Directory. If it all looks good, do nothing! But if it needs an edit, let her know. Because the Back-to-School Night is so early this year (Sept 8), Lori needs all the edits before August 15th.

srespto_directoryIf you did not receive this email, please contact her ASAP with your information — a parent email, a telephone number, an address, child’s name, and child’s graduation year. And if you know of a parent who is newly arrived in the District, please send them a link to this post so they can be included, too.

Weekly newsletter about class events and fundraisers

On Friday, April 22nd, the Home and School Association will launch a weekly newsletter called the STRATH HAVEN eBlast. Most of the content will be about fundraisers organized by the Classes of 2019, 2018, 2017, and 2016, but we’ll also share some general information that will hopefully be of interest to parents and guardians. For this first mailing, we are signing up all parents — so please be on the lookout for an email asking you to confirm your subscription. If you decide you’d rather not receive these eBlasts, it’s easy to unsubscribe. If you’re impatient, you may subscribe right now.

Meeting on Feb 11 about class scheduling

math.pngThis Thursday at 6:00 pm, Assistant Principal Andrea LaPira will make a presentation about class scheduling (that’s about to happen, so this event is scheduled for Thursday for a reason). If you want a preview, here is the web page on the scheduling process. And here’s the 64-page Silver Guide (PDF).

In addition, we will be discussing our new direct donation campaign that will allow us to continue to fund items requested by the faculty that are used to enhance the learning experience of our students. Give that link a try!

In the Library at Strath Haven High School.

Please support our direct donation drive

Dear Parents, Guardians, and fans of Strath Haven High School,

5975645_origThe primary role of the Home and School Association is to fund curricular requests using money raised by selling school directories (and the ad space within) each Fall. However, we would like to be able to fund a greater percentage of the items requested each year, but we really don’t want to add another fundraiser to everyone’s lives. Instead, we are instituting a direct donation drive, and ask parents and guardians to consider giving $25, $50, $100 … or whatever you wish (we can use whatever amount you are comfortable giving). We are a 501c3 nonprofit organization so your donations are fully tax deductible, and 100% of the money goes to funding items on the wish list.

So if you can, please write a check to “SHHS Home and School Association” and send to our treasurer: SHHS HSA, Michael Kohute, 906 Surrey Rd, Media, PA 19063. Please write “direct donation” on subject line so we can separate the checks from other sources.

If you’re curious where your donation might go, here are just some of the hundreds of items we have purchased over the decades:

  • portable AEDs
  • headsets for language instruction
  • human skeleton
  • copies of The Disappearing Spoon
  • electronic balances
  • sewing tables
  • lunches for needy students on college tours
  • pH meters
  • protein building set
  • track systems for teaching physics
  • year-end student awards

If you have questions, please contact Suzy Hoyle, our current Home and School President.
